A Facile Synthesis of SmCo5 Magnets from Core/Shell Co/Sm2O3 Nanoparticles

The fabrication of SmCo-based nanomagnets exhibiting large coercivity and high magnetic moment has been a recent goal for materials research owing to the potential applications of these nanomagnets in high-performance permanent magnets and high-density data storage media. SmCo5 is one of the most important hard magnetic materials in the SmCo alloy system. This material adopts a hexagonal close-packed (hcp) structure with Co and Co + Sm present in alternating layers along the c-axis, as shown in Figure 1.
